All things art. Most of my blog deals with painting and those who dare pick up a brush. But here’s the simplified definition for art; “a creative activity that produces something”. Each word of the definition is relative. That’s why art is debated. Personally, I see art beyond the categories it’s generally associated with. That implies that everyone is, or can be, an artist in some way. I’ll let you define what constitutes a “creative activity” and the “something” that results.
I feel very fortunate to live in such an art community. Just look at the artist directory on the internet. Or, the listing of galleries. There is the Art Institute of Charleston offering every kind of program for Arts, Design or Theatre. The College of Charleston has a wonderful School of Arts, with degrees in Music or Historic Preservation. Did you know you can even earn a degree in Wine, Spirits and Beverage Management? I wonder what that thesis is based on. But more importantly, it’s a place of enormous social, environmental and cultural diversity. All three are key components of art, regardless of where you live.
